After two years at the top, Bloemendaal has been dethroned as the most expensive municipality in the Netherlands to buy a house. Laren, another North Holland municipality, now claims the top spot. This marks the first time in a decade that Laren has secured the first position.
In the past ten years, Bloemendaal held the title of the most expensive municipality in the Netherlands for seven years. Alongside Blaricum, Laren often settled for a lower podium position.
In 2024, the tables have turned. The average price of a house in the charming Gooi village of Laren was 1.05 million euros, slightly exceeding Bloemendaal's 1.04 million euros, as revealed by a study conducted by CBS and the Kadaster.
CBS Chief Economist Peter Hein van Mulligen emphasizes that the competition between these luxurious North Holland municipalities is not random. 'The locations are close in rankings, leading to frequent swaps in positions,' he explains. The rapid exchange of positions is influenced by the sale of more affordable homes in a given year.
